He told me, “I retired several years ago after 30 years at various startup companies. I worked with and for Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning [the founders and original executives of Tesla] at three high tech startups. The idea had always been when Tesla opened a New York location—I’d try to get in. But by the time that happened Elon had fired all but one or two people I had worked with. I never did buy a Tesla though I put money down on a Model 3. The last person I knew at Tesla—ended up going to Atieva/Lucid—so I watched to see what she was doing. The Lucid Air was unveiled in 2017 at the NY auto show with a starting price of $60K. The all-glass roof and reclining executive rear seats won me over. This was the car for me.
