Putin’s Real Fears. With Petr Pavel (President of the Czech Republic)

About this episode

Czech President Petr Pavel warns of a possible military conflict with Russia – and criticizes Donald Trump's approach to Putin and Ukraine. Paul Ronzheimer meets Petr Pavel, the President of the Czech Republic and former senior NATO general, in Prague for an exclusive interview. Pavel discusses his personal negotiations with Russia's top general, Valery Gerasimov, Putin's war objectives, and the risk of a Russian attack on NATO countries. Why does he consider Putin predictable – and believe that the Kremlin leader is increasingly isolated because of his fear of assassination? Pavel also criticizes Europe's political weakness and Trump's Russia policy. He explains why Ukraine has not received enough support, why Europe should negotiate directly with Putin, and under what conditions he could envision rebuilding relations with Russia.
