About this episode
A sucker is born every minute—or so the saying goes. But in the late 1700s, a Connecticut schoolteacher turned that idea into a fortune. Ranford Rogers convinced hundreds of people that buried treasure lay hidden beneath their own towns, guarded by restless ghosts. He also claimed that he alone could make those spirits surrender their riches ... for a price. Join me as I share the incredible true story of the Great American Ghost Hoax, and how one man’s supernatural scheme swindled hundreds of people out of more than $100,000.
