Gabourey Sidibe Talks Queenie in AHS, Precious, Lee Daniels and Empire

About this episode

Gabourey Sidibe joins us in the studio for the first time! We get into her 'American Horror Story' lore, from embracing her inner witch as Queenie to her many deaths, getting choked out by Rubber Man and working alongside Kathy Bates. She takes us back to her childhood, growing up around her mother's subway performances (a subway singing legend), living with her aunt Dorothy Pitman Hughes (and her connection to feminist icon Gloria Steinem) and manifesting her future through *NSYNC fan fiction. We also talk about her early years, working as a phone sex operator, the real story behind her 'Precious' audition (and how her mother was considered for the role of Precious’ mom years earlier), her relationship with Lee Daniels, playing Becky on 'Empire,' her move into directing and navigating Hollywood after years of being underestimated. Plus, meeting her husband on Raya, getting married over Zoom, her famous family connections, and finding her confidence.
