About this episode

Dr. Mark Christian grew up in Egypt as the firstborn son of a respected physician and religious leader. He was leading prayers in mosques by age nine and later led prayers in Mecca. He studied hard to prove his faith was true, and the more he studied, the more questions he had. Asking them, he says, made him a threat to his own father. In his memoir, The Apostate: My Search for Truth, he tells what happened next: a call at dawn to his father's old medical office, a fire trap behind the door, and the stumble on a rug that he and Eric believe saved his life. Then, in the back of an ambulance, came the decision that changed everything: "I will follow Jesus, God of love."Eric was handed this book at an event and couldn't put it down. Here's why. And if you know someone who is quietly asking hard questions about their faith, Eric says, share this so they know they're not crazy.Dr. Mark Christian (a pen name) is the founder of Global Faith Institute in Omaha, Nebraska, and the president of the Truth and Freedom Foundation. The Apostate: My Search for Truth (Fidelis Publishing) is available at bookstores and Amazon. Global Faith: globalfaith.org. Sign up for Eric's newsletter at ericmetax
